Geography
Lur-Asko is obviously the primary setting of Legends,
and you will
probably spend most of your time here. The continent covers aroud 2,300 miles of latitude, and its climate
varies from frozen tundra to steaming jungle. By best guess in the
modern Age, it is home to somewhere around 35 million sentient beings.
Lur-Asko, roughly translated from Draconic, means “Land of the
Seven.” True to its name, it is divided into seven realms. Long ago in
the First Aeon, each realm was ruled by a different Protodragon - a
powerful energy being capable of shaping climates as it saw fit. As
a result, Lur-Asko’s environment varies widely from realm to realm;
travelers may find themselves crossing from a raging blizzard to a
blistering desert with just an hour’s walk across a border. Due to these
natural divisions, each realm tends to have a single species that comprises
most of the sentient population.
Each realm of Lur-Asko contains several major cities; in this Age,
there are no larger political entities of any significance. Each city tends
to mostly contain the realm’s dominant species, together with a smaller
assortment of the other antecessoroid and disparate species. Each city,
though independent, will often come to the aid of the others when great
troubles challenge the realm.
Despite the sharp contrasts in species, each realm shares a
similar unifying theme. Though each species brings its own unique culture
to the mix, the background culture of Lur-Asko is one united by the
traditions of Alacrian Rationalism, adventuring, and free trade. Most
businesses and social conventions are consistent from one realm to the
next. Travelers between realms can often make minor cultural blunders,
but will seldom create catastrophic
misunderstandings or encounter
total rejection... with the possible exceptions of Macska and Cevelky.
Population & Cities
All listed cities are considered "major cities" by any rule that refers
to such. They are the primary centers of political power in their
various realms, but each is surrounded by a large number of smaller
settlements. These lands are referred to as the city's domain or region.
Because most of Lur-Asko's people are rural and agricultural, only
around 10-15% of a given domain's population will be found in its central
city; the listed city populations count only this smaller portion. The
total population of the domain, as well as the names or details of any
smaller villages or towns, will not be listed here. There would be far
too many to list, and these settlements often change over time. Your GM
might create any number of villages for the campaign, and while some
could be the focus of quests, others might not even be mentioned as you
pass by on a road to elsewhere.
While approximate
populations are given for the major cities, these may also be adjusted
for your campaign due to a different starting date, or even simple
inaccuracy of in-character estimates. Precise, centralized censuses are
exceedingly rare, due to their association with the old Imperial Age.
