Athletics DevicesClimbing KitRequires Athletics: 1
Price: 20
Weight: 10
Carry Slots: 1
Power Source: None
This device consists of many tools which assist in climbing. It provides a +TN of 3 in all climbing rolls. If you fall as a result of failing the roll, this device also provides double the same +TN in the DEX roll to lessen fall damage.
You cannot use more than one Climbing Kit at once.
Effects per Size Increase: Increases the +TN by 1. Increases carry slots by 1. Use Total Device Weight chart.
Effects of Advanced Device: Increases the +TN by a percentage equal to 25 times your excess degrees of Athletics competency.
WetsuitRequires Athletics: 2
Price: 100
Weight: 5
Carry Slots: 4. All carry slots are ignored like armor while the device is being worn.
Power Source: None
This device must be produced for a specific WGT and species (antecessoroids count as the same species). For antecessoroids, it typically involves a streamlined outer layer, as well as fins for the feet. It is often paired with Chemistry or Corallurgy devices to enable underwater breathing. When worn, a wetsuit allows you to reduce your SPD to 50% (instead of the normal 25%) when underwater.
Since amphibious characters do not reduce their SPD underwater, they gain no benefit from wetsuits.
Size increases cannot be applied.
Cannot receive advanced status.
WingsuitRequires Mechanical: 2 and Athletics: 3
Price: 500
Weight: 5
Carry Slots: 2. 2 carry slots are ignored like armor while the device is being worn.
Power Source: None
This device does not enable you to take off or gain altitude, but provides a flying SPD of 8 if you are able to jump off of an existing height. You must descend at least an altitude of short range every 3 rounds, and must travel a horizontal distance of at least short range every round to avoid falling. The device must be "worn," and takes 1 minute to put on or take off. The maximum weight that the wingsuit can carry is 400 pounds. It cannot be used at the same time as a different source of flying SPD. Blunders do not occur in movement rolls using this device's flying SPD.
You cannot rush using the SPD from this device if you have 1 degree of encumbrance, and you cannot use this device at all if you have more than 1 degree. You cannot use more than one Wingsuit at once
A wingsuit has no effect while underwater and does not contribute to underwater SPD. It cannot be worn at the same time as a wetsuit.
Effects per Size Increase: May either increase the SPD by 2 (without increasing the rate at which you must descend), or increase the maximum weight by 200. Increases carry slots by 1. Use Total Device Weight chart.
Effects of Advanced Device: Increases the SPD by a percentage equal to 25 times your excess degrees of Mechanical or Athletics competency (whichever excess is lesser).
Powered Grappling HookRequires Mechanical: 3 and Athletics: 4
Price: 1300
Weight: 5
Carry Slots: 2
Power Source: External
This device consists of a grappling hook launcher held and operated with one hand, as well as the harnesses necessary to prevent injury from its use. As a major action, you may spend 1 charge and choose one of the following options:
1. If the environment is suitable, you may roll d20 on DEX to affix the hook to a solid object overhead (ask the GM if this is possible). If successful, you may swing yourself to a location you can see within short range. Follow medium-precision teleportation rules, except that unwilling touchers or grapplers may decline to let you move them. You may "teleport" a maximum of 400 pounds.
2. Same as above, but a distance of medium-range; upon successfully completing the "teleport," you must endure damage equivalent to a short-range fall to represent the velocity of the swing. Any character you bring along must do the same.
3. If you are purposely going to take a fall of short, medium, or long range, you can roll d20 on DEX to latch onto something nearby to slow your fall; if successful, use the next-lowest range for fall damage, or 0 damage for an originally short-range fall.
You cannot use this device if you used it in the current or previous round; it requires time to retract its line and recharge. Using the device creates noise audible to medium range at both the origin and destination locations.
Effects per Size Increase: May either increase the maximum weight by 200, or provide a +TN in the device's DEX rolls. Increases carry slots by 1. Use Total Device Weight chart.
Effects of Advanced Device: Increases maximum weight by a percentage equal to 25 times your excess degrees of Mechanical or Athletics competency (whichever excess is lesser).
